Originally designed in 1945 for Gino of Capri restaurant, affectionately known as “Gino’s” by New Yorkers, Scalamandré restored the Zebras wallcovering at this iconic Upper East Side establishment in 1973 after the walls were damaged by fire. Flora Scalamandré, wife of Franco Scalamandré, skillfully hand-drew the signature motif, which would later become the renowned Scalamandré Zebras design. This lively pattern depicts two Zebras prancing around politely placed arrows set against a lively colored ground.

The House of Scalamandré is proud to partner with Grevy’s Zebra Trust, an independent wildlife conservation trust, to help raise awareness for this urgent cause. In support of their efforts to conserve Grevy’s zebra in the community rangelands of Kenya and Ethoipia, we are pleased to donate a portion of all Scalamandré Zebras sales to GREVY’S ZEBRA TRUST.
